Nice article in french but the pics speaks for themselves! Up there, the statue of liberty being built in Paris!
Eng: Thanks to the first “daguerrotypes” cameras in 1839, we can have a view on what Paris looked like at that time. We can notice that the pictures doesn’t show much people whereas the streets were full; this is because the exposure time was very long and could not catch people in movement….only the ones posing for long minutes (20 to 30 min according to wikipedia) could appear!

L’apparition en 1839 des premiers  daguerréotypes nous offre les premiers clichés de Paris… Vous remarquerez que les photos datant d’avant 1900 sont généralement vides de toutes personnes. Cela s’explique par des temps de poses extrêmement longs à l’époque ne permettant pas de fixer le passage des parisiens pourtant nombreux dans les rues…
